Securly Content Filter on Charter DNS

Problem

The schools content filter, Securly, may prevent iPads from being functional at home where the home internet service is Charter. Other devices on the same network are functional while the school iPad is not. This is an issue with how Charter's DNS servers handle requests for Securly.

Workarounds

To address this issue; you can change DNS settings on the iPad while connected to the home wifi network or thru your home networking equipment.

Manually Configure DNS on iPad

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select Wi-Fi from the left menu.
  3. Select the i in the blue circle.
  4. Under DNS select “Configure DNS”.
  5. Select Manual
  6. Remove preexisting entries
  7. Add “8.8.8.8” and “8.8.4.4”. These addresses are for Google's Public DNS.
